The Economic Impact of World Trade Organization (WTO) Membership on China

Number of pages: 4

ABSTRACT:
This is a 4 page paper discussing the economic impact of China’s WTO membership. Light tutorial language is inserted in square brackets throughout to aid in the writing process for customers. After over fifteen years of multilateral and bilateral negotiations with members of the GATT and then WTO member nations, China was accepted as a member in the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1999 and its membership was activated in December 2001. The economic impact from this membership has been felt on international, national, private and labor levels. China has increased its GDP by almost 8 percent and its exports by almost 20 percent which has led China to become the fourth largest trading body in the world. While labor has begun to shift within the country from the agricultural sectors to the industrial sectors, private Chinese enterprises have also experienced a growth in revenue as the WTO has allowed them recognition in international trade; recognition they were previously denied. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
